On Sunday, October 4th, I had the pleasure of attending the last day of the E.L.L.A. Music Festival. During the diverse array of performances one young woman, by the name of Dani Shay, took me completely by surprise. She opened up her set by explaining that she was slightly emotional that day and apologized in advance for one of the best performances I have ever had the pleasure of viewing.

She opened up with a song titled, 'Shades Of Green', which absolutely blew my mind. When she started singing, everyone was immediately surprised that such a strong voice could come from such a tiny, quiet girl! As she sang her song, 'Apple', I watched in amazement as her heartfelt delivery was not only displayed in her face, but also spread to everybody surrounding her. Towards the end of her set she played a song that asked everybody, "All in favor of a new world shout I", in which everybody around cheered and indeed shouted. 'New World' questioned just about everyone in the audience, and outside of it.

Out of every performance I have covered I would have to say that Dani Shay is one of the most personable and impressing people I have seen to date. I uploaded these photos simply because they make me smile, but also to tell you about my good friend; Leif Olson. Not only is this man a super fantastic individual, he is talented as all hell. Why go into a tattoo shop and pick something off of a wall when you can have your own ideas put into action? This man does some of the most amazing custom and freehand tattoos that I have ever seen, so go get something that nobody else has. I promise you won't be disappointed.

South Beach Halloween!

So, for Halloween I went to South Beach to a party that my friend was throwing and spent a good portion of the night photographing in and out of the club. Enjoy.

Was absolutely fucking amazing, The Show Is The Rainbow, Summerbirds In The Cellar, and The Faint at The Culture Room, if you didn't make it and you happen to live in Florida, I truly feel sorry for you. Not only were the two opening bands fucking phenomenal, but The Faint blew my fucking mind. None the less, here is a recap:

First band, Summerbirds In The Cellar: you may have never heard of these boys, maybe you have, I had not until last night. However, they put on a great show, though they did not play many songs (I wish they would have played way more), what they did play was great. This band had such a great sound, and put out such great energy. I'm glad I came early, they are definitely worth seeing again (and again and again and again). Look them up, they are on Myspace, buy their album, t-shirts, whatever. They deserve it.

Second band, The Show Is The Rainbow: if you do not know who The Show Is The Rainbow is then go out, buy an album, listen, and bash your head against a wall for not knowing them (him) sooner. One of the best live performances ever, especially with only two people! While jumping into the crowd, breaking his toe, singing on the floor, just being plain ol' rambunctious, just watching him perform made my night. Definitely worth seeing and supporting. Amazing, absolutely amazing.

And of course, The Faint: let me start off by saying I don't think I have ever EVER danced so hard in my entire life. After the show was done I was literally dripping in sweat, my hair was no longer straight, and I felt like I had just ran twenty miles. Probably one of the best live performances I have ever been to, and I've been to many. I'm in love with the way they perform, each has their own individual way of dancing, each is absolutely magnificent. If you could feel the energy in that crowd, just wow, it was fucking beautiful. I will, no doubt, see them every time that they play near or around me. Wonderful show.

So, in conclusion, if you missed this show, you should probably go home, wrap up in blankets and cry for days. You missed one of the best shows of all time, for sure. The end.

(P.S. Friday night, Rachel Goodrich, if you missed that you are also fucking retarded. Great show, great energy, great vibes, beautiful people. It was an absolute joy to be part of that crowd. Good job, guys!)

I've been in New York since Tuesday and I have no plans of staying in Florida for longer than a month when I get back. I realize now what it is that has taken me away from my friends and family multiple times. This city is a monster, it will eat you up and spit you out but you can't help but run back to it no matter what it does. You can make something out of yourself here, or you can drown in a sea of a thousand other people who are trying to do the same. This city is good to me, it loves me and I know it. I can feel it when I am walking down these busy streets. When I'm here, I am happy. I have a twinkle in my eye and a bounce to my step and I can't help but dance in public places (even if there is no music playing). My flight leaves on Sunday, I am looking to return no later than mid October.

I landed in New York at around 10:00am on September 13th, drove home through Manhattan, went to a small family gathering, then took a two hour nap only to be awaken by Steve telling me to get dressed and that it is time to "party like a rockstar". So I got on my flannel t-shirt and got in the car to pick up our good friend Pontown. As we drove through New Jersey singing Against Me! as loud as we could I realized how much I missed the New Jersey roads and it's lack of street lights. So, we got to Aj's house and hung out for a little bit as they got moderately tipsy and I recorded what they did through a camera lens. About two hours later we all piled into two cars and made our way through New Jersey (me as the "designated driver", of course) as a "traveling circus".

We got to Stephs house which was extremely amusing but half full of douche bags and obnoxious Jersey girls. As we hung out just a bit longer I watched my group of friends get heavily intoxicated and all the more amusing. Aj and Steph got into an awesome half play half "I'm too drunk to realize I'm actually hitting you hard" fight, which was highly entertaining, and also ended up in Aj having a pretty intense fat lip. It ended up getting a bit too extreme for all of us to deal with so we piled into our cars and drove across town to another party. Us being the "traveling circus" and all, Aj of course, was our clown.

We arrived at Cathy P's place at around 1:15am and left about an hour later. It was a nice atmosphere, I'd have to say, house on the lake and good tunes, but not enough to keep us amused. Considering Aj's lack of an ability to stand, and my lack of an ability to deal with people sometimes, we left there and went on the long drive home back to Chester. With Pontown as my co-pilot (and I thank the Gods for that) we drove along singing Left Over Crack as loud as we could. I've got four highly intoxicated men in my car which makes for a highly entertaining drive back. We stop at Quickcheck for some water and snacks and end up talking to some equally intoxicated strangers who want me to take pictures of them. I take pictures, Aj makes "friends", and we get back in the car.

The drive home was nice, singing tunes with good friends, dodging deer on the roads. Aj and Jack were the first to get dropped off, then Pontown, leaving Steve and I to fend for ourselves for the rest of the ride home. With my horrible sense of direction and Steve's equally horrible sense of direction (doubled by alcohol) we got a little lost and almost ran out of gas. I dodged more deer and quickly made it to a gas station. Getting lost had never been this much fun.

We got home around 4:00am, smoked a cigarette with mom, and soon got into bed. Needless to say, I couldn't have asked for a better first night back home. I'm looking forward to being here for a bit longer, and I'm looking forward to more Jersey nights later on this week. Tomorrow Steve leaves for Maryland and I get on the train to New York for a few days, even just thinking about it makes me feel light hearted.

I haven't slept in over 48 hours and I will not be sleeping tonight. Considering that tonight is this morning, since it happens to be around 4:30am right now. I leave for the airport in about an hour, I sincerely hope that I get to sleep on the plane. I got home at around three and packed last minute, which worked out quite well actually. I'm all packed and pretty much ready to go, all I need to do is put on my plane clothing and walk out that door. I'm nervous, I think.

To change the subject: I saw Mates Of State tonight, which just so happened to be phenomenal. I got to take pictures on stage and they turned out super (thanks to my new camera). They blew my mind, honestly. I'll leave you (whomever you are) with a picture:
